STDs and Infertility
The number of cases of STDs are on the rise, with the number of cases of Chlamydia especially increasing. If left untreated, Chlamydia can cause infertility in women. In fact, thousands of women each year are left infertile due to untreated cases of Chlamydia and gonorrhea. Neither infection usually display any symptoms and can only be detected in a through medical exam. While neither STD is life threatening, they can leave the victim sterile if not treated. It is recommended that all sexual active individuals undergo constant STD screening to ensure they are properly treated if they contract an STD.
